چکیده

Citrate-capped gold nanoparticles with different colours and diameters were prepared by the reduction of HAuCl4 using sodium citrate. With increasing the size of gold particles, the plasmon absorption peaks were shifted to longer wavelength and the intensity of resonance light scattering was enhanced. The resonance light scattering of gold nanoparticles in the range of 500–600nmwas quenched by chemisorption of mercaptoacetic acid. Using dielectric coated gold nanosphere model, the probable mechanism of decreasing resonance light scattering was obtained by numerical calculation based on quasi-static theory. The calculation results showed that with the decreasing dielectric constant of nanoshells, the light scattering intensity at 557nm reduced linearly. The explanation of decreasing resonance light scattering in this paper provided a theoretical foundation for developing highly selective assays using quenched resonance light scattering. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. Single-Molecule Force Spectroscopy of DNA-Based Reversible Polymer Bridges: Surface Robustness and Homogeneity.

Single-molecule force spectroscopy, as implemented in an atomic force microscope, provides a rarely-used method by which to monitor dynamic processes that occur near surfaces. Here, a methodology is presented and characterized that facilitates the study of polymer bridging across nanometer-sized gaps. The model system employed is that of DNA-based reversible polymers, and an automated procedure...

Characterization of localized surface plasmon resonance transducers produced from Au(25) nanoparticle multilayers.

This article reports the preparation of gold plasmonic transducers using a nanoparticle self-assembly/heating method and the characterization of the films using scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM). Nanoparticle-polymer multilayer films were prepared by the layer-by-layer assembly on glass slides by alternating exposures to monodisperse Au(25) nanoparticles and ionic ...

3D simulations of wet foam coarsening evidence a self similar growth regime.

In wet liquid foams, slow diffusion of gas through bubble walls changes bubble pressure, volume and wall curvature. Large bubbles grow at the expenses of smaller ones. The smaller the bubble, the faster it shrinks. As the number of bubbles in a given volume decreases in time, the average bubble size increases: i.e. the foam coarsens. During coarsening, bubbles also move relative to each other, ...

Frog foams and natural protein surfactants

Foams and surfactants are relatively rare in biology because of their potential to harm cell membranes and other delicate tissues. However, in recent work we have identified and characterized a number of natural surfactant proteins found in the foam nests of tropical frogs and other unusual sources. These proteins, and their associated foams, are relatively stable and bio-compatible, but with i...

Producion of Nanoparticle Assemblies by Electro-Spraying and Freeze-Drying of Colloids: A New Method to Resolve Handling Problem of Nanoparticles

To resolve handling problem of nanoparticles, due to their small size, a new methodology of electro-spraying and freeze-drying was developed for colloidal nanoparticles of silica and titania to transform them to solid macro-scale nanoparticle assemblies.  The assemblies were then redispersed in an aqueous system to investigate the effect of formulation of original solutions and the process ...

Synthesis of amphiphilic triblock copolymers as multidentate ligands for biocompatible coating of quantum dots.

One barrier to apply current tri-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO) based quantum dots (QDs) to biomedical imaging is that the TOPO on TOPO-QDs can be replaced by the proteins in living system, which may cause the degradation of QDs and/or deactivation of protein. In order to develop biocompatible optical imaging agents, a novel triblock copolymer, designed as a multidentate ligand, was synthesized to...
